APEC ROES-50 review: the certification covers TDS, not lead
The APEC ROES-50's only NSF/ANSI 58 certified claim is total dissolved solids reduction. The lead, arsenic and fluoride claims that appear when you search APEC as a brand belong to other APEC models, not this one. It is a well-reviewed system whose certification is narrower than most buyers assume.

The brand-versus-model trap, in one product
Search "APEC" in a certification database and you will find claims for lead, arsenic and fluoride. Search the model ROES-50 and you find one NSF/ANSI 58 claim: total dissolved solids. Those other claims are real, and they belong to different APEC systems.
This is the single most common way filter recommendations go wrong, including on sites that look authoritative. Certification is granted per model. A brand with excellent certifications can sell an uncertified or narrowly certified product alongside them.
What TDS reduction does and doesn't tell you
Total dissolved solids is a bulk measure of dissolved minerals and salts. A reverse osmosis membrane physically excludes most dissolved contaminants, so the underlying technology is genuinely capable. But a TDS claim is not a lead claim, and TDS readings do not indicate the presence or absence of lead. NSF makes that point explicitly in its consumer guidance.
What NSF/ANSI 372 is not
This system also carries NSF/ANSI/CAN 372, which several buyers read as a lead claim. It is not. 372 certifies that the product's wetted components are lead-free, meaning the housing and fittings will not leach lead into the water. It says nothing about what the filter removes.
Who should still consider it
If your goal is better-tasting water, reduced mineral content, and a proven RO platform with nearly 10,000 reviews, this is a long-running product people are broadly happy with. If your goal is documented lead or PFAS reduction, the certification on this specific model does not provide it, and you should look at models that carry those claims explicitly.
